About

Denise Meunier was born and raised in Western Massachusetts  before moving  to the San Francisco Bay Area after high school. Denise was creating stories before she could hold a pencil. Whether in her imagination or through books, she has always loved exploring new places, engaging with beguiling characters and experiencing life from other perspectives.

After graduating from St. Mary's College with a business degree and working in the commercial real estate industry, a creative writing class at UC Berkeley sparked Denise's desire to write more seriously. She took more writing courses and wrote short stories in her spare time. Her work earned her a slot at a week-long writing retreat with Zoetrope and a novel-writing retreat at the Maui Writer’s Conference. She met her mentor, author and professor, Raymond Obstfeld, in Maui, completed his advanced novel-writing course and has attended his annual writing retreats for over fifteen years. She has also been mentored by author and instructor, Nina Schuyler, and in 2018, Denise completed Stanford's two-year novel writing program.

Denise has completed two novels, Our Father's Wish and The Second Hardest Thing and is currently writing a third about the false securities we invent to survive in an insecure world.

Denise's short story, ‘Shotgun,’ was published by Mill Valley Lit in 2014 and her personal essays can be found on Medium.com.  She lives in Marin County with her husband and youngest son and her German shepherd, aptly named Honey.
